[TCML] Neon-bulb plus zener and capacitor as possible replacement for SIDAC?
Dear List
Re the SISG circuit commonly discussed by List contributors
in lieu of 300V SIDACs -if indeed there is a shortage on the market-
could the following "substitute" be used:-
It consists of
1) a zener diode fixes the voltage at which current starts to flow
2) a capacitor which charges to the firing voltage of the neon bulb
3)a neon bulb which "dumps" charge form the capacitor into the gate of
an SCR
4)Finally an IGBT which turn on when its gate is driven high by the
conduction of the SCR
I understand that neon bulbs or for that matter SCRs are not famed for
their switching speed but since they are only used to trigger the IGBTs
2would this be a problem?
