     GLANCE seemed OK.  (insert wiki joke here...)

     Roughly/briefly:
      Geissler built tubes with low pressure gasses:
      modern Neons, etc, Fluorescent lights are
      evolutions.

      Crookes tubes were/are higher vacuum, evolved into
      X-ray, CRT etc....
