Re: [TCML] Sad news

I am sorry to hear this. He was a true gentleman. He was a not-to-be-taken-for-granted staple at Ed Wingate's Teslathon for the times that I went. He was always willing to share some time to talk about Tesla coils and vintage electrical technology. I am glad to have gotten a chance to talk with him and to get a signed copy of his Strickfaden book.

Subject: [TCML] Sad news

All
The Tesla coiling community has just suffered a huge loss. After a long illness, Harry Goldman has passed away.

"Sir" Harry created and published the Tesla Coil Builders Association (TCBA) News from 1981 - 2001. This unique quarterly publication covered Nikola Tesla, the rich history of and various facets of Tesla Coiling, articles from famous and experienced coilers both past and present, and practical how-to information. Many notable amateur and professional coilers wrote articles for publication in the TCBA News. Harry had a seemingly endless archive of fascinating pictures, magazine and newspaper articles that he resurrected for the benefit of his subscribers.

When Harry first launched the TCBA News, PC's had yet to be invented, there were no Bulletin Boards, email existed only on mainframes, and the Internet was only a vague dream. The TCBA News helped organize and unite folks who shared a common passion for Tesla and Tesla Coiling from all over the world. Harry's extensive library of articles, historical pictures, and his network of pioneering coilers provided unique insight into the varied and rich history of coiling. This was especially valuable to all of us "newbies"!

Harry knew most of the famous Hollywood HV special effects folks who provided the sparks and arcs for the horror movies many of us remember from childhood, and he recently wrote a book about Dr. Frankenstein's Electrician, Ken Strickfaden. Harry's wit and humor were unforgettable. Many will fondly remember chatting and corresponding with him about "Telsa Coils".

We have lost an author, a teacher, and a dear friend. Our thoughts and prayers go to his wife, Ruth.

Bert
