is shorter. However, since the system is running in CW mode (Well, 60hz
modulated CW... Unless you have a very stable DC plate supply) you are
getting much higher RF current in the discharges.
Spark-gap systems are more impulse systems rather than CW, an intense
magnetic field pulses the secondary into resonance. Hence, higher output
voltage but also somewhat reduced output current as well.
The 'staccato' driver operates somewhat similar, the pulse train into the
screen grid 'pulses' the plate tank circuit very much like a spark-gap
system. Also, with VTTC's, 'q-factors' really influence the sharpness of
the secondary's response as well as the actual conduction time of the
triode or tetrode.
