If you are really serious about building your own VFD, I recommend you get a copy of the Motor Drive 
Control IC Designers Manual from International Rectifier. If there is a IR distributor near you you 
could talk to a rep, they will likely give you the book for free. If you cannot find one, contact me 
off list with your address and I'll mail you mine, it is old, but still a good read. There is a lot 
more to a VFD than just making a good waveform at the desired frequency.
