[TCML] being a good neighbor
I use the suggestion in the AARL handbook for properly grounding an antenna tower. I use three 15 foot deep poles in an isosceles triangle connecting the centers into "Y", and use #6 copper wire and keeping that wire short, and run it into my coil area. The power from the breaker in my coil area is on an isolation transformer that uses the Earth ground as reference. Honestly, I think this configuration works very well for keeping crazy RF from getting into mains. About 20 feet away I have another power leg on a different isolation transformer, but this leg uses mains ground as reference. The isolation transformer feeds a power conditioner which feeds two APS UPS units. This leg runs a significant amount of computer equipment and test equipment, as well as the internet modem, wireless access points, routers, switches and hubs. I am able to run decent sized coils, six foot output or so, and my computers at the same time without mishap. It is possible that I am lucky, but I have tried about every combination of everything and so far this is the best setup I have discovered. Since I can run my smallish coils indoors, I do not subject my neighbors to so much objectionable noise.
Obviously my wife and I have worked out an agreement for when to wear hearing muffs.
Sincerely,
Miles
