RE: [TCML] Geek Group Lab Tour - Jan 2010

Arcturus max power to date is about....let's see, 20A on the 480 feed, about
9.6kW or so. It can move a lot more than that, but it's useless as it's just
power-arcing to the cage at that point.

We desperately need a larger high-voltage lab. If we close on the facility
in GR we'll be able to build (and operate) even the giant Zeus coil
*indoors*. :) Oh how I dream of those 60 foot ceilings. And CRANES (OMFG
CRANES!!!!).....but don't get me started on that. I need a metric ton of
cash before we're gonna make that happen.

In the Gemini configuration we've run it up to about 25kVA (which was the
limit of the lab we had at the time).

The Heavy Industries lab has a 480V 3Ph 500A power feed though, and we have
the 208V/3Ph/100kW generator in the back.

I can't wait to start on Zeus. I'm eager to fire up the new power supplies.
We have a quad set of 100kVA pigs, plus a matched pair of 25kVDC power
supplies that are 230kVA each. :)

Big fun this summer.

Anyone interested in being part of the large coil construction is invited to
get involved in our forums (or even come visit the lab!). These toys are
here for people like *you* to come play with.

Oh, and in fun news. The tooling I need for our giant 8-foot sheet router
arrives this coming week. We'll be making and selling some exceptionally
useful bits for the coiling community in short order.

The world of coiling is about to get a lot easier, and much prettier. :)

In the meantime, I leave you with Bubbles.

You've got that right!
Chris Boden is a very kind man and I respect him to a very high degree; if
only people would help him accomplish his dream.
What is the largest amount of power which you have ran through Arcturus,
Chris?
