Re: [TCML] My Hemisphere/Toroid with Unconnected Top Sphere results

Cool observations Peter. They indicate the output of your coil peaks to at least 220 kV.

Hello Matt,

Thanks for your feedback. Some comments back. First I have checked and rechecked some tuning calculations for my setup for various toploads involved here, see last section of webpage http://www.freewebtown.com/baitzobservatory/tesla/index.html

I've also attempted manual tuning as well starting with calculated values, and moving up and down, etc. and in all circumstances, top sphere gone, top sphere attached by metal, top sphere there but isolated. And throwing out any case where tuning went completely out of tune and no sparks, the cases with streamers were always very much bested by the top sphere there but not directly connected. Example could not get the hemisphere/toroid alone, or hemi/toroid with connected top sphere to tune where output was anywhere near as impressive as the sphere on top but unconnected (except through the arcing). So it's still hard for me to accept the top capacitance just bringing it into tune, or out of tune theory. In fact the hemi/toroid with sphere unconnected atop works best with 8.5 primary turns which matches closely my hemi/toroid by itself calculation of 8.8 turns.

There is another website that shows a connected sphere within an isolated outside sphere, and there it is said when the inside sphere arcs to the outside, the capacitance becomes that of the outside sphere. I am wondering if with my setup, the topload capacitance remains that of the hemi/toroid (because primary tuning 8.5 turns matches closely 8.8 calculated, even with the disconnected sphere on top, and an arc established between, but supplying more energy from the seperate capacitance of the sphere. Though I noted - and is seen in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoUesr9L3cg - sometimes the sphere seems to feed the hemi/toroid and sometimes the opposite. Plus when the top sphere does breakout occasionally, it is in one streamer like a well tuned sphere.

Again, if you review my website I show the setup and some calculations for toploads and primary tuning, and notations on results for checking the primary tuning.

Anway, these details described above, make me cautious to just say the top sphere is just throwing it into tune. More like I have the hemi/toroid tuned, but output is not as good until the sphere is on top disconnected, perhaps capturing otherwise wasted energy and pumping it back into the hemi/toroid? And arcing back and forth so the output is better?
I'm also trying to insure everyone is taking into account the details I am mentioning, for example my attempts to tune the primary in each case, and results thereof, as mentioned above. And reiterating, I didn't just test the top sphere connected to the hemi/toroid and not also try re-tuning, I did try those steps.

Peter
