Update for August 31, '09.
Last night I upgraded my copper tubes spark gap from 3 to 6 gaps - had left room on my original build in case.... This definitely improved resiliency or efficienty of the unit as tuning it seemed much more capable. I was able to go from 7 up to 8 primary turns and still get streamers whereas before not so. And I think it helped functionally with the addition of a larger toroid too. I also added three more primary coil turns - 11 total turns - which helped me with a larger top cap toroid tuned out to 9.5 turns seemed to give about two constant streamers mainly on the right side, with the left side streamer showing up intermittantly. (I was told a toroid should have two constant streamers when rightly tuned.) Now regardless I still only get 10-15" streamers so I can only attribute it to things like the Terry Filter and Safety Gap dampening voltage or current, and so on, and/or theoretical versus physical specifications? (The safety gap is "tuned"
with just the NST and terry on it so it is just below firing.) I may also use some aluminum tape and smooth out the toroids and also see if I can find a sphere.
