That's what you get for not listening to the list.
I hate to say it, but I've been thinking about doing the same thing for a while, now. I REALLY want to get a small transformer to power a tiny TC with a secondary that is about .6875" in diameter and with five inches of winding. The windings would be done with 40AWG wire. I have a pound of said 40AWG, so that would not be a problem. My problem is that I can't get an acceptable transformer, no matter where I look. I find myself wishing that it was common-place for people to make high-voltage wall-warts.
I have found myself looking at DC car battery charger transformers, wondering if wiring them backwards would work. If the windings wouldn't burn out, I would be left with 1.2KV to do my 'dirty work' with. I could use microwave oven caps (MOCs) in series to get an allowable BPS. The current output, if the same input as when normally wired, would be from 60 to 120mA, which is acceptable for TC use. I would simply use three MOCs in series to get an LTR value for 333.3nF, which would work fairly well.
What do you guys think?
