Set it up without the air flow. This setting is adjusting the gap to fire at the transformers output voltage and nothing more. If the electrodes get warm during the adjustment, let them cool down before continuing. You can't duplicate the environment the gap will see when it's hooked up to the coil even with air flow during the adjustment procedure, so I don't see the need to do that. The basic idea is to set the gap to fire at the output voltage. The cooler you keep the electrodes when it's hooked up to the coil, the less the firing voltage will change during running.?

What I do suggest regarding the gap distance is to ensure you set the gap up correctly by taking the gap and transformer aside and setting the gap up without anything else connected. This is the only way I know of to ensure the gap is set properly.??

I removed the motor/fan from a vac from an old vacuum cleaner which seems to put out a pretty intense airflow out of a 1" X 2" opening.? Do you think this would?be sufficient to?handle the cooling need?? I hear of a lot of guys using brass bar stock in these gaps which I would think have similar heat issues.? >??
