Hey Jim...

Lost me on this set up... where can I find some schematics on this type of wiring? Im still trying to understand how a 400VA trannie can handle 2.5KW load...
Is the low voltage trannie added to the line voltage for 140V?

Exactly... It's so simple when you know it you'll do the facepalm thing...

Short of googling buck/boost...

Say your transformer has 120V input H1, H2... and 20V output X1 X2

Line is L1, L2
Load is R1, R2 (for lack of better id)

L1 connects to R1

L1 Connects to H1
L2 connects to H2
L2 connects to X1
X2 connects to R2

(I might have the phasing backwards, so it bucks, not boosts)

Only the low voltage secondary needs to carry the full load current, and the transformer needs only be rated for the "additional" power, not the full load power.

http://www.acmepowerdist.com/r.asp?URL=%2Fpdf%2FPage_104-109.pdf has a diagram Actually, googling buck-boost transformer wiring gives you more than you ever wanted to know.

Wikipedia is terrible for this, though.
