Re: [TCML] Still stuck at 36"

Frustrated,

I remember setting up a TC one time which used a 6.5" x 24" secondary,
powered by a 7500v@120ma NST. This gave a max spark length of
46" if I remember correctly (or maybe it was more). However I had to set the spark gaps
as wide as possible to obtain this spark length. Wide gap settings
can destroy an NST over time, although the higher voltage NST's
are probably more susceptible to such failures. I think the tank C was 0.08uF.
I used a 6" x 26" aluminum ducting toroid. I probably tried using a
4.5" x 17" ducting toroid also, but I don't remember the spark length
under that condition. It was probably about the same.

Perhaps you're using a pipe gap with many series gaps which causes
large losses. If the total gap distance is rather narrow, this will
limit the spark length greatly.

Do you use a breakout point on the toroid to limit the spark to one
output streamer only? If you're getting multiple breakouts all around
the toroid, this will reduce the maximum spark length.

Subject: [TCML] Still stuck at 36"

This still will not do more than 36-40". I have put together a mmc
cap bank.
The caps are cornell dubilier 942c20p15k 2000vdc .15mfd

I assembled them 10 series -6 parallel.I have 6 rows. I can adjust
for 1
string,u
p to all 6.Still 7500v@xxxxxxxx seems best with 3 strings

I have spun another secondary coil that's 6.625 sch 40 pvc wound 1060
turnes. The spark output is about the same as my 5.25 coil with 1607
turnes

I have used various top loads. The 6.625 coil seems best with a 4.5x18
toroid
with a 7" sphere on top

Am I under powered to drive a coil at 6.625?

I have the same spark gap described in( stuck at 36)

Thanks much from the frustrated.
