I agree with Jim Lux. Winding that thing by hand would be easy,
particularly if you have the pre-cut bits of tape handy, and take less
time than making a winder. Advantage of hand winding [form in your lap,
wire feeding over end of spool on floor] is that you can stop instantly
if something goes wrong and have the tape handy to hold the winding
you've already made. You'll find that you'll quickly get the hang of
feeding the wire on the form with a finger holding the tension and
forcing the wire against the adjacent turn and can get a winding which
is "neat enough for government work". I always start winding closer to
the end of the form than I plan after finishing the winding as it seems
to take a few turns to get the wire feeding right and square to the form
- those turns are removed after the winding is complete. I have a
winder and have used it when coating finished coils but have also had
good luck with a clean brush and working by hand.
