RE: [TCML] Jacob's Ladder

Hi Neal,

There has been much discussion on this topic. Variacs are good for
controlling voltage - a satuarable reactor (current amp) is a good way to
control current- a small dc voltages makes the core adjustable. Variacs
wired to control current (series) often have thier core split and gapped to
keep it from saturating and allowing runaway currents. I would not want to
do this to a very expensive variac personally.

Please search the achieves for more info!

Maybe this is not an issue with MOTS; but, good to keep in mind if you scale
up in the future as most of us do!

Hi DC and all,

I'm tinkering with a dual MOT supply at the moment, and have a couple
questions-
You mentioned about the MOTs being similar or identical in design. I thought

I'd read earlier here that it was ok to put the smaller of the two first in
the series, feeding into the larger one. Also, re: control, I was going to
put an amp meter in the line and then control it with a variac. Does this
sound feasible? Is there any noticeable advantage to controlling with a
power reactor vs. a variac? Thanks,

Neal.
