Re: [TCML] Different sort of MOT

Thanks for your reply. I am welll supplied with the usual power supplies--NSTs, an OBIT, and a Ruhmkorff coil, so I don't feel the need to mess with this item. I shall tear it down for parts.

This is an Inverter supply. The output is voltage doubled and runs at
several KHz. I made a voltage tripler attached to one of these with a
switching of the output diodes as a cap charger. Be carefull with this as it
is quite dangerous. To bad the frequency isn't a bit higher.

There is a schematic of a Panasonic inverter and theory of operation
somewhere on the Inet. I have it in my archives somewhere if you are
interested.

Like many other I expect, I harvest parts from cast-off microwave ovens. I
don't usually bother with MOTs as power sources, but I found an unusual one
I am curious about.

Yesterday I got a working Panasonic oven, and the transformer is a light
item with a plastic frame, a few turns of braided primary and a few more
turns of secondary around a simple ferrite D shaped core. (It looks more
like an old flyback than the standard MOT). Its mounted on a circuit board
with an imposing array of resistors, diodes, and film capacitors.

Is this of any use in our hobby, other than to tear down for parts?

Paul
