Re: [TCML] quiet spark gap for my DIY coil?
I made something when I first started into coils that was a series of dished brass plates separated by O-shaped gaskets. The arcing took place between the discs in a somewhat sealed environment (sealed by the gaskets). I increased my spark length by roughly 60% over two 3/4" aluminum bolt heads that I had used as a gap previously. In essense I had a series (about 7 I believe) of the below assemblies series'd together and compressed against the gaskets with threaded posts on all four corners. (I'm at work -using yahoo to respond to home mail-, or otherwise I'd provide a much better picture and perhaps a photo, but hopefully you get the idea. It worked well, but choosing better materials would have made it work even better, and it was silent.

I recently finished construction and testing of a basic 75- 100 KV Tesla coil. All went fine except the spark gap, which is simply a couple of stove bolts, is exceptionally loud and I'd like to find a way to quiet it. I want to keep this simple if possible. Can anyone recommend a cheap, proven way to quiet this spark gap?
Thanks in advance,
Jon
