RE: [TCML] HV Transformer Winding
Finn, Bart & others:#
I have wound both secondaries and the primary will get done this weekend. When the varnish is dry (i spotted it on in places to keep the wire from moving) I will try out all the differant combinations to see what you actually get.
Trying to visualise it is hard work
Jay:#
Yes that's the stuff. Best to try a piece out first using an NST and a Variac. The original insulation paper that was on the transformer when I got it held off about the same voltage, so fingers crossed.

Hello Jay.
Yes the transformer was originally from a radar set 8.25 kv, cores are 2 x 1
inch, giving 8 sq inches for the middle leg.
I am using brown parcel paper or 'Kraft' paper I think is the other name.
It's heavy duty (90gsm) about 5 thou thick. When loaded with oil it is
capable of holding off around 3K from tests that I've done. This is well in
excess of the voltage pd between layers.
(Of course that could well be the 'kiss of death' to the project now <grin>)
