Thanks, I didn't really click onto the small capacities of these, but that
makes complete sense. I always wondered though if the larger ones could be
used in pulse applications as the dielectric doesn't get damaged in pulse
situations. A variable one would be a good way to tune a coil while running
instead of always stop starting as we have to. I also thought about building
my own variable capacitors with polypipe as the dielectric, wrapped on the
outside with foil and a length of aluminium pipe on the inside. Sliding it
in and out would change the capacitance.

perhaps only for a very small vacuum tube coil.
main reason is the capacitance is usually too low and the units with higher
capacitance are very large physically.
this is due to the fact they use only air as their dielectric.
