I am in Denver as well, and on the Second Sunday of every month, I
host a meeting of "mad scientist" types. (I'm also one of the
founders of the Denver Mad Scientists Club). Drop me an email off-
list and I will be glad to give you directions.
These meetings started out as Tesla coil / high voltage meetings, but
over time, we lost a few people, and there were fewer and fewer Tesla
coils or other HV projects showing up, so after a few years, I
declared it to be more of a general gathering of folks with an
interest in science hobby projects. That said, one fellow almost
always brings his small solid-state coil, although he doesn't always
drag it out of his car and set it up unless someone asks.
Most of us have either lived in Colorado our whole lives, or
transplanted ourselves here some decades ago, so we know what you're
talking about as regards sources of parts. But perhaps we can help you.

Dave Fistell was wonderful to hobbyists?? When? That man was rude
and insulting to me, and after a couple of bad experiences with both
him and his son (who once ran a store called Fistell's Micro-
Electronics) I gave up on all of them.
The people running Fistell's now seem
determined to run it into the ground. I have no idea where I would
find a
socket for an 811A without Fistell's.

The reason I'm looking this way for a TC is that I've found, much
to my
annoyance, that I've developed carpal tunnel, from way too much
computer typing.
Oh boy - I had a brush with that many years ago, but managed to change
my habits
before I developed a long-term problem. Very sorry to hear it!
So if you have an old coil that works well and you've been wondering
what to
do with it, hey, drop me an email ...
I don't, but it might be that one of our group could help you out
somehow.
I am in the process of building a premium coil which I hope to sell
some day, but it won't be cheap, and it's not exactly small - 7 feet
tall, 1800 watts.
