RE: [TCML] Variac proximity
The flux leakage in power transformers is by design, minimal. If one was routing low level audio signals near a transformer with unshielded wire, you'd probably pick up some hum. But I don't think a few millivolts, if that much, coupled into another 120V power transformer would be a concern or even detectable in any application.
