[TCML] RE: 2N3005 Transisotrs : was:RE 555 timer
Exactly. Older designs keep calling for them because they are just that
- older designs. Circuits designed before less expensive devices are
available.
Remember, with 2N3055 nowadays, you are paying for the package. But
with thermally better devices these days, they can get away with putting
a similar (or better) die in a standard TO-220 package which is much
cheaper.
But of course, if you have them around, go ahead and use them.

And the really strange thing is that there are so many better devices
out
there but these older designs keep surfacing and calling for a 2N3055
Go figure...
