Re: [TCML] No-load NST's

this reminds me of the time when I lived in LaCombe La and had a major problem with dogs raiding the trash can and making a major mess of it... so what did I do? I got an NST ( 9Kv 30Ma ) and put a hi volt diode on it to make it DC and ran the negative side to a 4X4 grid of chicken wire on the ground and isolated the metalic gargabe can with 2x4's on the hot side of the can.... about 4 am the can was disturbed by the rouge kanine, which could not seem to get away from the garbage can until I unplugged the system... needless to say the offending pooch never returned to displace the contents of the can... Even tho it was a 9KV 30Ma unit it goes to show that the "bite" power to hold is strong enuf to to keep a 50+ pound dog at bay..... I suppose that a 12 - 15 kv 30+ mA unit would have been more than enuf to dispose of the offending pooch..... so I guess it goes to show that being "bit" by a 12 KV unit has its potential to do more than just catch your attention...

be careful with hi voltage systems....

That same transformer now sits in the attic of the garage powering my small coil which I use to give demos to interested visitors. No evidence of distress but it may die the next time I fire it up.
