RE: [TCML] Table top coil
Describing a coil as 6" is only a very indirect indication of how loud or powerful it might be. A better indication would be to say what kind of transformer powers it, or the Watts or KVA of the transformer. My 6" coil is powered by a 15/60 NST, but I could also probably power it with the 4/20 NST that is in my table-top coil.
Sorry, stepping down from the soapbox, since a table top coil is typically much less powerful, it will typically be comparably less noisy. But it would still be unpleasant to listen to indoors.
