Should be useable, with a bit of tinkering. This
thing has a peak voltage of 5375v. Running that
through a voltage doubler gets you over 10kV--more
than enough to fire a SGTC. For serious coiling,
follow the doubler with big series charging choke and
a de-Qing diode for 20kV! Short answer: if I had a
big, fat, 3800VA plate transformer like yours, I'd
find a way to put that beast to work driving Tesla
coils.
