I think your caps are fine if a 2 x 12 array. The transformer however is
likely the problem. If you were to set your spark gap width to arc
across a single tube (minimum spacing) with the NST (no caps or coil),
you'll probably find only a single snap will occur and then all will be
quiet. When the gap fires across a gap in a TC, it shorts the NST
output. Your particular power supply is designed to shut down in this
situation. You need to get your hands on a real NST and not one of these
little solid state things. You want a high voltage transformer with no
gfi or short circuit protection.
