Plastic will work for a while, but the inclusions, with their different
dielectric constant, will produce internal corona, heat, and lead to
eventual failure.

With the low cost of MMC caps, and using a Erms x 2.5 ratio, this will
insure very long life for your coil.  I have some that have been running in
museums, doing 3 performances
per day, 6 days per week, for over 4 years.  To the average experimenter
this would translate into an operating TC that will probably outlive you.

Failures are almost always miserable experiences.
