    If '6 in' is _length_ in ground, I'd suggest more.

    Yes, also local soil/rock conditions.
    Not an issue just now, however: if ground freezes in winter,
    frozen ground goofs up ground, unless deep enough to
    get below frost line...

   (yes:
    buried radials/mesh on surface are shallower: different effect
    than single point ground...)
