That's a broad and assuming statement to make, considering that we can't see this coil, and that the experience of many is that single gaps do work very well.  The important thing is that single gaps, particularly for medium and higher power coils, require more than just a casual airflow through the gap spark channel.

Nicholas, please describe the airflow through your gap?  If there is minimal or no forced airflow, you will see a huge improvement by fixing that.
