RE: [TCML] Credit where credit is due!
Jeff:
You have said something extremely important below: commiting to paper your story. Right now I am struggling, with the help of families, friends, and collectors (including Frank Jones, Bob Campbell, Harry Goldman, William Terbo, etc) to document the lives of Tesla Coiler's that are no longer with us. In my case, the gap is normally 70 years, I am working on a half-dozen people from the 20s. But time is irrelavant here. And there were many important coilers since then.
Just as in the 1920s, we have a unique family of coilers that are all "in the business together" [separately], so to speak. The family is ever-growing... when you count inspiration of one man to the next, it is fascinating - I mean, Ovington was inspired by Tesla yet worked for Edison out of school. He started building Tesla Coils with Strong, who had been inspired since the beginning by Kinraide. He did a travelling high frequency show (put on by Edison(!)) that atttracted a young Kenneth Strickfadden. Years later Strong donated Earle's coils to Griffith Observatory, where later a young Bill Wysock was inspired and coming full-circle in life restored it completely.
There are many people innerwoven inbetween that fit into this complex puzzle. If we don't tell our stories, we may not be lucky enough to have someone telling them for us 50 or 100 years down the road. Or even caring to try. Noone's story is perfect, sure. But, when someone asks in 50 years who first put a torroid on top of a Tesla Coil to increase the output, will they even have a clue who it was?
And think for a minute of Harry Goldman. One of the nicest people I know, and certainly of great character. But how can someone like him, who has documented so much history -- have so little written about himself!

I lived in Washington D.C. and the closest Tesla coil builder was Jim Roddy in Maryland. Jim suggested I contact Bill Wysock, D.C. Cox and Harry Goldman, who, as it turns out, was about to start publishing a Tesla Coil newsletter via mail (Al Gore had not yet invented the Internet). I would hold many jobs between that day and today (pro drummer, software company founder, graphic artist) but it was D.C.'s prodding that kept me fired up about Tesla. Thank you D.C..> > Bill Wysock is the designer and chief engineer of the machines we use at kVA Effects. As flattering as it is to hear "Jeff's Team and Jeff's Coils", etc., the truth remains that I am simply providing capital, infrastructure, material improvements and team management. Bill is the historically significant figure here; I'm just bringing his work and the inventions of Nikola Tesla to the stage and screen. Nick Ritter is most responsible for the construction of the SG line of Tesla coils. Thank you Nick.> > Someday, I will commit to paper my story on meeting Bill Wysock for the first time as he is obviously one of the most significant people in my life. Words, written or spoken will never adequately express the admiration and gratitude for the man who so willingly allowed me to stand upon his shoulders. Thank you Bill.> > If one must give me credit, then be it for bringing the forgotten works of Nikola Tesla into the public eye. Movies (Triple X, The Prestige), television commercials (too many) , print ads (too many), stock photography (Artbeats), product rollouts (Microsoft XP, Mercedes-Benz AMG, etc.), television shows (Fear Factor, Jeopardy!, etc.) and theater (Young Frankenstein the Musicial).
