So what it the terminals are magnetic? If you're running a DRSSTC or
other coil using higher than average primary current, the resistance
(nothing to do with being magnetic) of steel studs may cause you
problems. But the weak link in doorknob caps is the plate construction
and maybe dielectric losses. The terminal material will make no
practical difference. And odds are that you'd need more than two
doorknob caps for a tank cap anyway. I use a couple eBay doorknobs for
use in a Terry filter. It doesn't matter what the terminals are made
of.
