Martin,
Thanks for that further info.
I did some work with pulsed DC VTTC's using tetrodes
as a low-powered test with the idea of building a higher
power system.? The tetrodes made it easy to implement
the staccato mode by pulsing the screen grid with raw AC.
I'll be looking forward to your results.

Hello John,
Thanks for your interest. The grid-pulsed DC-VTTC
was conceived mainly because of the idea to use
multi-kilowatt transmitting triodes (or tetrodes)
for a large VTTC. I think that there are limitations
to the commonly used AC-VTTC with staccato when
used with tubes that have for example ten times the
output power of a 833 tube. The main drawbacks
being a bad power factor and high current pulses
that have to be delivered by the ac mains and the hv
plate transformer.
Using a DC-VTTC the power factor would be much better
especially when using a three phase HV-transformer
and six-pulse bridge rectifier for charging the storage
capacitor.
Some interesting research will be needed in the future
to gather more experience with pulsed DC-VTTCs
but I really want to share my results with anyone interested
in tube coils. As I stated the grid-pulsing unit I use came
out of an 12 kW-RF generator. It's electronic design is almost
30 years old. Nowadays it can be made more compact
using modern IGBTs and integrated igbt drivers.
I plan to design a modern version of the grid-pulsing unit
as soon as possible.
I will try to put some pictures, text and schematics on the web as
soon as I can. What is the best way ? I thought of myspace.
- Martin
