Re: [TCML] pad mount transformer tesla coil

Clive,

I would guess that the main reason would be that pad
mounts don't seem to come any smaller than 25 kVA.
That's pretty large even for a monster Tesla coil system.
Also, I think their terminals aren't quite as easily acces-
sable as those of the common pole pig. Looks like they
are considerably more pricey than equivalent pole pigs,
too. Otherwise, I can't see any reason why a pad mount
transformer wouldn't make a good power supply for a
big coil ;^)

Subject: [TCML] pad mount transformer tesla coil

Hello,
Has anybody tried using a padmount transformer to drive a coil? I haven't seen this or heard of anyone using a transformer like this one here: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Cooper-75-KVA-1PH-OA-Pad-Mount-Transformer_W0QQitemZ200130886048QQihZ010QQcategoryZ42881QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

This is merely academic, I just wondered if there was a good reason these aren't widely used.
