My first thought was what a trivial problem. Then I remembered when I had to 
make a similar thing.  To get a low distortion sine wave (which I presume 
you need) you can use a Wein Bridge oscillator.  Then there are questions of 
settling time when the frequency is changed and also range in one sweep. The 
first one I made 20 years ago used a bead thermistor as the non-linear 
device for the variable feedback. Usually done by other means now. Good
