    I don't think anyone has mentioned specifically that there is a 
fundamental difference between a Marx generator and a Tesla coil.  The 
latter is a resonance transformer in which the "stepup" is obtained by 
resonant voltage rise in a coil with much lower capacitance in the 
circuit than the primary - it's output is in the form of pulses at radio 
frequency.  The output of the Marx generator is a unpolar (DC) pulse.
