You might consider looking into Dolph's AC-43 (Dolph's website). It is especially formulated for good HV properties including anti-tracking and corona. It also serves as a terrific bonding material for the enameled magnet wire. I'm sure they have a distributor somewhere in the UK for this liquid insulation.

I like to paint on a little varnish on the coil form then varnish the coil
this keeps all the wire in place and helps to protect the coil.
