I haven't. Its been done by 'professionals'
(which is not to be takend as a 'knock' on anyone.

The research I am thinking of was done in Japan, likely on
the web, somewhere. Really, Really, Powerful laser beam
ionizes the air gasses, which makes 'air' conductive.
The given reason was for lightning protection (tho it
seems unpractical to me...), roughly:
Sense a stroke is about to happen.
Fire beam at mirror.
(Mirror is targeted to point beam at stroke source area in
storm.)
Stroke follows conductive path to conveniently located
lightning rod, which protects mirror, rod and mirror are
positioned to protect a 'high value' 'thing' nearby.
