We obey both the spirit and the letter of the law. We make sure that our
devices do not interfere with radio reception  or power line
transmission. Our activities pose no threat to the safety of the public.

 You did a lot of public relations for your- informal permission -.This is
not the same as simply sending a letter asking for formal permission.

Privacy and secrecy are not the same.
