In 2007, "legitimate sources" are not case studies. They are double blinded
randomized controlled trials published in peer reviewed journals showing
statistical benefit. I think that probably substantially downgrades the 5%
benefit. Do you know of any actual studies that meet this criteria? If the
FDA is giving approval then presumably there were some but I can't imagine
what benefit a Violet ray machine could give physiologically.

Hi Peter,

Of course, the benefit is psycho-emotional, and that's what keeps the
folks coming back. For many, it's the simple fact that someone is taking an
interest in them that re-energizes their immune systems. One of the things I've
noticed, over the years, is that real doctors are occasionally uncertain, and
use such words as "probably", "there's an X% chance", or even "I'm not
sure". Quacks and charlatans NEVER use such words. People find their absolute
confidence reassuring.
Following an auto accident, back in the 70's, my lawyer sent me to one
of those phony doctors with phony degrees from phony schools. The lawyer said
they were much more amenable to testifying with greater surety than MD's or
DO's, and that juries loved that. Years later, when the state licensing board
shut him down for using those TC-based 1920's and 30's machines that he had
inherited from his father's practice to "treat" serious illnesses, there was
a great public outcry of "institutional conspiracy".
It seems to me that as technology becomes more detached from common
understanding, people want security more than they want science, and touchy-feely and
feel-good are at least as important as having a real cure. The snake-oil
salesmen realize this, (whether they wear white lab coats or white collars).
Even to many college graduates, Newton's universe is far more comfortable than
Einstein's and Heisenberg's.
