Hey All,

One of the most famous Tesla Coils from old medical books is the "Piffard
Hyperstatic Transformer". It was an early Tesla Coil from 1900 that was
powered by a static machine. Here is the original article, and a photo of
the device.

It used two 4" diameter leyden jars and had the primary coil wound on the
inside of the secondary coil...this was actually common in early Tesla
Coils. It was embedded in wax and rosin to prevent spark-overs.

It was used to treat skin conditions very successfully, and was documented
later in 1908 as having the highest operating frequency of any coil on the
market at that time. It was manufactured by Waite & Bartlett, a company
that sold mainly floor model static electric machines and induction coils
relating to medical and X-Ray use.

One of these days we'll try and make one.
