Sorry Chris,

Skin effect in humans is a myth. High frequency current passes right
through all your internal tissue heating it up. Its just that your
nerves are not as sensitive to the high frequency electricity.

When people talk about secondary strikes not hurting, i imagine they are
talking about getting struck while holding a conductive rod / tool in
their hand. If you touch
the secondary discharge, you have all the current entering your body
through a single pinhole. This causes lots of localized heating and
destruction causing lots of pain.
However, if you are holding a conductive object around your hand, the
conducting surface area is quite large so the damaging effects are
spread out over a much larger area so
pain is relatively less.

Of course, getting shocked by any part of your Tesla coil is pretty
dangerous, and EXTREMELY stupid if you do it intentionally.

Dan

Scott,

You will notice that the guys who pass it via thier body always hold
metal rods or metal gloves etc. The arc itself is hot enough to set fire
to things and burn them. Though the frequency is high enough not to go
very far into your body so you do not feel anything, but you can of
course get burnt!
