   With modern semiconductor devices (MOSFETS, IGBT's, etc.) and 
modern magnetic materials devices for converting power forms (DC to 
another voltage DC, DC to AC) can be made much lighter than those 
using AC frequencies such as the universal aircraft standard of 400 
Hz.  Modern trend is to rectify the output of the AC generator to 
produce +/- 135 VDC and transmit it around the vehicle where it is 
converted into the final power form at the using device.  Almost 
universal for new systems.
