RE: DC Jacob's Ladder

Jim,

I have a DC jacob's ladder and I love it! The supply for my setup is an
actually pulsed DC power supply for a laser, so it's already rectified,
filtered, and pretty, but it sounds....smooth. There's a little hiss,
some soft "fwip" noises as the air currents move around the plasma
channel, and a very loud scream as the arc begins to break down at the
top and the pulsed nature of the power supply shows itself in both the
noise and the visible banjo arcs burned into your retina. It's great,
but at 34kV and 120ma, it's also a bit scary.

Take care,
Joe Duva

Hello,

Has anyone ever tried a DC JL and if so what is it like? My concern
are my diodes' safety; but, I'm using 6 in series in a 6 pulse, 3
phase setup. They are rated at 7500v, 4amps outputing 24KV DC. There
is a very large filter choke in the tank on the output.

Thanks,
Jim Mora
