Distilled water still has lots of ions. Also, any
volatiles in the water that you steam distilled will
still be there when you're finished. You need to start
with the best available water, then deionize it. It
won't be DI for long. "Pure" water really wants to
disolve stuff, so if there's any metal in there, (like
capacitor plates) you won't have "pure' water for
long. Ice however is something I don't really know
about. If you could DI distilled or RO water, then
freeze it before it has a chance to dissolve
anything...
There's a trick to making ice with NO air bubbles.
You'd have to employee that trick, and keep it frozen,
while running your coil. Doesn't seem very practical.
Dumping 100's of amps into this thing has got to warm
it up.
