Re: A real quarter wave TC ?

Hi Skip,
FWIW, no one on the list has yet been able to detect any improvement
in performance from wire length = 1/4 wavelength. It seems that what
holds for a straight antenna element doesn't apply when you bend it
back on itself many times (eg making it into a coil). You might want
to search the archives for this (often heated) subject. Of course,
your results may vary, and you may notice something that no one else has.
Good Luck,
Matt D.

Hi, again
Yes, the correct value is 35nf. I will be using an 1,800 rpm, 4 pole,
SRSG. I made a serious mistake in my first post. My frequency to
wavelength conversion was faulty and therefore the secondary
calculations were wrong. I have made the necessary new calculations
and will probably throw the unit together over the weekend. The
primary (with capacitor) and secondary (without a topload) will both
be resonant at about 210khz and the wire length of the secondary will
be 1/4 wave at 210khz. Will post results, hopefully next week.
