Original poster: Bert Pool <lightnin_dude@xxxxxxxxxxx>I was browsing a laser web site earlier this week, and it mentioned that one of their high power lasers receives it's triggering HV pulse from a small built-in Tesla coil. And welding companies put small Tesla coils in TIG (tungsten inert gas) welders to initiate the spark.

Original poster: "Matthew Boddicker" <shmerpleton_town@xxxxxxxxxxx>does anyone know of any real life applications of a tesla coil. I know of the "neat" tricks to do with it (i.e. lighting a lightbulb without wires), but not of any important things. Why would Tesla invent something that could only make sparks and nothing more?thanks, Matthew Boddicker
