Yup.  Longer exposures play tricks.  This was a
five-second exposure.  The purplish streamers are
quite misrepresented here.  To the human eye (at
least, *my* human eye), they're much more visible.  In
this picture, they're totally overwhelmed by the power
arcs and have melded into an aura that makes it look
like the power arcs are changing color.  Still, a neat
shot if I do say so myself.  A fantastical closeup of

I use it for desktop wallpaper on my computer at work
because it never fails to elicit a "what *is*
that?!"-type response from people ;-))

The little specks and colored dots are flakes of
CD-ROM that were flying everywhere!  After roasting
several CDs, my friend and I looked like we'd been
showered in glitter! :-)
