Hi Steve,

Yes, this Is a bit light for a SGTC, < 100W. I believe this transformer is made in Italy and is not designed or "ruggedized" for outdoor use. At 3kV, you are looking at a maximum total spark gap setting of ~ 1-2mm, which is very tricky to adjust. However, you could use a voltage doubler circuit to give 6kV @ 12/16 ma for a small coil. Most NST's intended for outdoor use are in the 9 to 15kV range @ 30 mA or more. If you can't find a higher-rated NST, you might want to try to find an OBIT (Oil Burner Ignition Transformer) which are usually ~10kV @ 10 mA. or a regular NST.

Hi all ive just started collecting bits to make a tesla coil and have
located a neon sign transformer but the output voltage seems a bit low.
its a diemme typ 6025 sec 3.0kv 25/32.5ma input is 220/230. is this
going to be enough to work a tesla coil?.
perhaps i could modify it in some way? what do you guys think
thanks
