My Public Apology to Mr. Ed Wingate and the List
Original poster: <dhmccauley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
In June of 2005, there was a brief discussion
into the operation of the Marinov, or
ball-bearing motor which was titled, ?Single
Shaft Motor ? Ed Wingate?? For those who do not
remember this thread, it began with me asking
what was the official name for these motors. As
I knew Mr. Wingate had built one (motor), I added
his name to the thread title, so as to get his
attention when he browsed through his daily TCML
posts. My original question to the name of these
single-shaft motors was promptly answered, and
the thread entered into a brief discussion into
whether the ball-bearing motor operated via
either thermal or electromagnetic action. Ed
Wingate?s stance on this question was that the
Marinov motor operated via electromagnetic
action. However, since I read several papers on
the Marinov motor which stated it worked via
thermal effects, including one published by Dr.
Stefan Marinov himself, I responded with the
following statement which contradicted Mr. Wingate?s thoughts on the issue:
? . . . Although I highly respect Ed Wingate?s
personal thoughts, especially as Ed is one of the
most experienced high voltage / electrical
experimenters I know, I cannot dismiss the
results of all these technical papers and studies
as being incorrect.? (Thread Date: 07 June 2005)
Now although I personally do not see anything in
this statement or in the entire thread that would
be interpreted as offensive, Mr. Wingate has
expressed great concern over this particular
statement in recent emails, and has informed me
that he views this statement as ?taking a shot? at him personally.
A few weeks ago, Mr. Wingate had asked me to
bring up those papers on the thermal theory to
the Teslathon this year. I replied to Mr.
Wingate in an email stating that I had since
found several IEEE papers regarding the
electromagnetic action of the ball-bearing motor,
and that I no longer agreed with the thermal
action theory of the device. Mr. Wingate then
asked me why I hadn?t responded to the list
regarding this matter as he felt it was important
to do so. Therefore, I would like to publicly
declare that I was wrong with my original
assessment of the operation of the Marinov motor
and that Mr. Wingate?s statement regarding the
action of the Marinov as being electromagnetic
was indeed correct, as was indicated in the three
IEEE papers which I had sent to Mr. Wingate via
email, and had also posted last week on this list.
Finally, enlight of these recent discussions, I
made a tough decision to decline my invitation to
the 2006 RATCB Teslathon for this year. Although
I look forward to this event more than any other
during the entire year, I would feel
uncomfortable attending knowing that Mr. Wingate
felt i personally attacked him on the
list. However, regardless, I still hold a deep
respect for Mr. Wingate and would still hope that
I would be invited to his teslathon in future
years. And although I had never intended my
statement to be offensive or as a personal attack
against Mr. Wingate in any way, I would like to
publicly offer my apology to both Mr. Wingate,
and the list, for the statements I had made in
the above mentioned thread. I was clearly wrong
in my original assessment into the operation of
the Marinov motor and it was unfair of me to
disagree with the statements Mr. Wingate had made
regarding the operation of the Marinov motor.
Respectifully yours,
Daniel McCauley
