Hi Terry,

Im wondering if peak current is important too. Sorta akin to second breakdown with bipolar transistors. The signature for second breakdown with a CBE transistor is a short between C and E, yet the BC and BE diodes are still there. Peak power can cause localized heating that causes this C to E short.

I am now pretty sure the only way to kill the SISG in Tesla coil service is just by too much RMS current way overheating them which is really hard.
